Very beautiful out-and-back ride. You can start anywhere along Highway 12 to make the ride longer, but it doesn't add much more climbing. The second to last pitch is about 300 yards at greater than 10% grade, and watch your speed on descent- the road is in good condition, but its easy to get over 50 mph if you're not paying attention.

Big climbing route- over 6,000 feet! Takes at least 4 hours actual riding time, plus breaks. Plan to stop for lunch in Wondervu or Rollinsville, and don't start with fewer than five hours of daylight left unless you have headlights and tail lights. Traffic on Golden Gate Canyon can be a little heavy below the cutoffs for White Ranch and Centennial Cone but the rest of the route through the hills is pretty low traffic. Bring a camera!
