LA BMP/Alta: Jefferson scares me, especially at La Cienega and for half mile to east. I ride this route to work, and I never feel very safe on Jefferson. Rodeo is more often a safer route, but it, too, is freaky busy, and the east-bound connection to MLK presents cyclists with a dangerous two-lane right turn situation.

This route would connect Westchester/Ladera Hts with Ballona Creek, Wetlands, the Marina, Venice and the Playas. As drawn, there would be reaches of the route on streets due to infrastructure and proposes a new trail on the south bank of Ballona Creek, compatibility needs to be verified vis-a-vis Ballona Wetlands restoration. An alternate could create a bike bridge over Ballona connecting to the existing trail - this makes sense for connecting to routes north. This is a concept proposed in the draft Ballona Greenway Plan.

Extends Ballona Bike path from Culver City to Mid-City along Ballona Creek and Cologne Street, creating safe linkages for LA residents to Ballona Creek, wetlands, and beach. Route has several challenging crossings with major infrastructure (bridges, 10 fwy ) in the way. Route connects to downtown via Venice bike lane/route. Proposal is a concept in the draft Ballona Creek Greenway Plan.

Proposed trail from Ballona Creek trail to destinations north (West LA, Brentwood, UCLA) via Sepulveda Channel, McLaughlin & Barrington Streets (w/sharrows). Connection to UCLA needs more thought, but possibilities could be Federal to Ohio to Veteran or Palms to Veteran. Also could connect to Exposition ROW via Gateway. Sepulveda Channel bikeway is a concept in the draft Ballona Greenway Plan.

La Cienega Boulevard is notorious for its bike unfriendliness and Crescent Heights provides a great and much safer alternative getting you north and south. The staggered section can get a cyclist to Venice Boulevard by bypassing La Cienega under the 10 Freeway.

LA BMP-Cheviot Hills to Santa Monica Stuckey Mar 4th 2008, 10:30 6.2km

This is the main route I ride to work. Both Pico and Olympic are busy during commuting hours. When the Olympic Pico One Way takes effect the traffic will be even more dangerous. There needs to be a plan to help bike safety along this route. There is no direct east / west alternative for bikes - Santa Monica Blvd. is too far North and doesn't have a bike lane the whole way, and Venice Blvd. is too far South.
