| LA BMP/Alta: Jefferson scares me, especially at La Cienega and for half mile to east. I ride this route to work, and I never feel very safe on Jefferson. Rodeo is more often a safer route, but it, too, is freaky busy, and the east-bound connection to MLK presents cyclists with a dangerous two-lane right turn situation. | |||||

| * This route has heavily trafficed choke points (Lassen to Marilla, 500 ft North of Saticoy, Vanowen to Victory) but this rider far prefers Owensmouth to Topanga (the MTA's designated North-South route for this area!!) because of Topanga's heavy trucks which give off sooty diesel exhaust, kick up road dust and make for a noisy, inhumane route. Canoga is not a safe alternative in that auto and truck speeds are high and many long stretches are 3 lanes of cars and trucks but no bike lane. * An Orange Line North-South busway extension is planned parallel to this route! Request the MTA include a bike path as part of the extension of the Orange Line. * Lots of shade on thir route compared to Topanga or Canoga due to Residential shade trees. None on Topanga or Canoga, lots on Owensmouth. That matters a lot in 100+ degree F SF Valley summers, which are often 10 or more degrees hotter than downtown LA summers. | |||||

| Bikely does not work well in Safari, so I hope it is viewable for BMP review. This route is the best east-west one I know between Hollywood & Silver Lake, and I think that Fountain would be a great candidate for a "Complete Street" or Bicycle Boulevard. | |||||

| If you sort of enjoy driving in high traffic, this is a great and RELATIVELY safe route. Beware of car doors on Fountain, which is somewhat tame, and Melrose especially. Fairfax can get hairy, but it helps to assert yourself and take the lane. I reversed the route (Culver City to Little Armenia/Los Feliz) and it has a tweak which makes it more pleasant. | |||||
