| A suggested alternative to the Ingram, Roddam, Ilderton bit of NCN route 68.
Some off road but nothing 'technical' (and NO FORD). You might like to try accessing http://s637.photobucket.com/albums/uu97/sadoldsamurai/Brandon%20to%20Ilderton%20braid/ for some photos of what to expect. Happy mudplugging! And thanks again to Derek Purdy of 'The Northumberland Mountain bike guide' fame. |

| This is mostly a route on tracks and minor roads, there are a couple of real pulls, but worth it for the views. Much of it courtesy Derek Purdy of "Northumberland Mountain Bike Guide" fame |

| This route misses out the A697, but does involve a stiff climb on a very poorly maintained (for cycles and none 4*4's) track. In my opinion it's a valid alternative as it passes a good example of an iron age hill fort, and has a nice exhilarating downhill to Ingram, with great (Doddington's) ice cream available in the summer. |

| Low traffic loop going south of the Tyne through parks and via bridle paths to the coast just north of Whitburn, then back via National Route 1 along the coast to South Shields - the ferry to North Shields and then along the coast to Whitley Bay and back to Monkseaton. It's about 35 to 40k depending on your detours - easy and very pleasant. |
