Castles and lakes, big forests, also some wide fields with cows and horses -- mostly avoiding high-traffic roads. We did this as one section of a single-day loop ride of 111 km (or less), but some riders might want to use it as a stage of a longer multi-day tour. Though it starts and ends in Germany, much of the middle goes thru Austria. For more detail and connections to other routes, see www.roberts-1.com/b/x/de - routeID [denpoa]. Also check the labels on route points or on the Cue Sheet for warnings and alternate route possibilities. Visits two famous castles with remarkable exterior looks: Neuschwanstein and Linderhof - (recommend planning an extra 45 minutes off the bike to walk around the exterior of Linderhof). A long section beside a mountain lake and thru a forest with very little human development. Oberammergau is famous for its "passion play", and this route goes past the playhouse, but apart from that the town is pretty and pleasant to visit. All on reasonably good asphalt except for one short section on dirt (which could be avoided). Some long gentle sections, some long moderate climbs, some short steep climbs. For the other two sections of the loop, search on Bikely for [denpob], [denpoc]. We've done it once so far: the track given is from our GPS. We thought the full loop was a great ride so we're sharing it, but it's possible there are some mistakes or problems we didn't notice. This route not checked by us since 2009.

Castles and lakes, cows and horses, some single-lane asphalt roads, some big views, delightful villages, wide fields, big forests -- mostly avoiding high-traffic roads -- 69 mile loop in southern Bavaria / Bayern (and partly in northern Tyrolia / Tirol, Austria). See www.roberts-1.com/b/x/de - routeID [denpo] for info + alternatives + links. All on reasonably good asphalt except for one short section on dirt (which could be avoided). Some long gentle sections, some long moderate climbs, some short steep climbs. We've done it once so far (except one section we also did a year earlier), the track given is from our GPS. We thought it was a great ride so we're sharing it, but it's possible there are some mistakes or problems we didn't notice. This route not checked by us since 2009.

Hills, hills and hills. Despite a few high traffic portions, this route will take you through very scenic rides. The cycle path is 95% paved side by side to the automobile road. Once you enter Austria in Scharmitz you can start heading back for fast downhill route into Garmish.

Beatiful scenery as you travel from Germany to Austria and then back into Germany. This route will take you into a deep valley along lake Plansee. Some nice hill workout at the end and some rolling hills along the way. Breathtaking!

Wonderful farmland with cows and horses on moderate hills, fields and forests, delightful little villages, some big views -- mostly avoiding high-traffic roads. We did this as one section of a single-day loop ride of 111 km (or less) which returned to Oberammergau by way of Neuschwanstein castle and Austria. For more detail and connections to other routes, see www.roberts-1.com/b/x/de - routeID [denpob]. Also check the labels on route points or on the Cue Sheet for warnings and alternate route possibilities. The town of Oberammergau is famous for its "passion play", and this route goes past the playhouse, but apart from that the town is pretty and pleasant to visit. Surprise is that the roads of this section go thru hilly farmland without significant steep climbs. For the other two sections of the loop, search on Bikely for [denpoc], [denpoa]. We've done it once so far: the track given is from our GPS. We thought the full loop was a great ride so we're sharing it, but it's possible there are some mistakes or problems we didn't notice.
