With the struggle for the final GC places probably all but over the focus should briefly fall to the sprinters. This stage is often capital to the team classification, so all the teams will be taking it seriously. People sometimes wonder why a team sets out to catch a breakaway. They often do it because there are riders from other teams in the leading group. If two riders from one team are ten minutes ahead of the pack, then this adds up to twenty minutes in the general team classification. Chasing the scraps of le Tour help keep this classic going and going...

This is the only 'real' time-trial stage. The route will wind its way through the streets of Bordeaux for fifteen kilometres, with avenues and buildings to shelter the riders. Then suddenly, they will leave the city and arrive in the open countryside, amidst the vineyards, because they will be passing through the famous landmarks of the Haut Medoc wine-making region, such as Margaux, passing one chateau after another. The finish is magnificent. On the face of it, this time trial will merely fine-tune the classifications; there is no way the seventeenth-placed rider will grab first place. The last time trial when the Yellow Jersey changed hands on the penultimate day was in 2006, when Landis (3rd at the time behind Sastre) triumphed. However did he do that?

Bias > Morcenx > Solferino > Labouheyre > Liposthey > Gastes > Mimizan. Mostly smooth, quick rolling road except few km into Labouheyre. from Parentis ignore 'beeps' to use cycle path - too slow, pine debris and many diversions and junctions to negotiate.
