| This is the safest route I have found to commute between the east side of Westfield and Dow AgroSciences in northwest Indianapolis. It includes 1.5 miles of the Monon rail-trail, and most of the rest of the route has an extra-wide paved walk/run/bike trail beside the road. Springmill Road and the eastern portion of W Main St on the route are wide enough for a bike and a car to share the lane. This part of W Main St is also part of a designated Bike Route. The part of the route on 146th street necessitates the use of the paved trail on the south side of the street since traffic is usually heavy on this street. 161st St, and Ford Rd near each end of the route can be quite busy during rush hours, but the rest of the route is fairly low traffic. The southernmost part of Ford Road and the westernmost part of 96th Street are the only parts of the ride with a rough surface. | |||||
