You've got to like climbing on this ride, with over 6,500' to go up, but you will be rewarded time and again with long descents and beautiful sights. Roads are relatively low-traffic and most pavement is in good to new condition. This route is a special treat during foliage season, late Sept - early Oct.. CW is the best direction for this ride!

Starting at the Richmond Park & Ride, this CCW loop takes in two of Vermont's nicest climbs, Smugglers' Notch and Appalachian Gap. The Gap is easier going the other direction, but the Notch is much harder that way. There are lots of variations to this ride and it's easy to make it a century, or bail out in Waterbury and take Rte 2 back.

There are a few significant climbs, most notably the steep, thousand-foot Middlebury Gap. Granville Gulf is always nice, as is the descent through Ripton. You'll probably pick up a headwind somewhere along the way.
