| This is a route I take for fun, usually around midnight. I do it at night since my schedule permits and there is almost no one on the lake shore path. The quiet by the lake helps me think, and the ride down broadway is fun, dodging through the traffic. Please note, where it looks like you get on LSD, you actually get on the Lake Shore Path. |

| Logan Square to 95th St Bridge via South Chicago Ave
Star-date: Approx. 11:30 AM Sunday 8/12/2012. Winds ~10 mph S (supposedly). Returned approx 2:30 PM.
Bridge on 95th St. just east of S. Chicago Ave. closed for painting; headed back.
On northbound S. Chicago Ave. (2 wide lanes + a bike lane in both directions), an old geezer in a silver Chrysler minivan tried to run me off - followed me honking on 2 flat stretches (not near any lights). Called 911 for that (I had his plate #).
MLK drive is a nice ride, except for 2 things:
- Church goers parking/double-parking, taking out the bike lane and the right motorized vehicle lane.
- They remove the bike lane at intersections (to accommodate left-turn lanes), and these areas specifically are ditch-ridden.
They need to fix the descent from the bridge in Halsted just south of Milwaukee, one could get easily thrown into traffic at descent speeds.
Other than that, this ride is on smooth streets for biking (8/10).
Returned the same way (don't know how to show that). |
