|
109.3km |

| Bormio - Passo Mortirolo (from Mazzo, the hard side used in Giro d'itlalia). Descent towards Edolo which starts the actual climb of the Passo Gavia. The Gavia really starts to go upwards at Ponte di Legno. 2621m at the top, then a hard and tricky descent into Bormio. The same as ridden by Andy Hampsten in the '88 Giro. |

| The Premier Gran Fondo in Italy? Well it is certainly well organised consisting of 55km, Medio 106km and the full Maratona 138km route of long climbs and, you can decide the route as you go according to how you feel on the day. Included are fast descents and big bunches but careful on the psychology! The simple sight of 3000m peaks can play tricks on the mind of any but the most experienced of cyclists but, the gradients are generally not steep although the climbs are very, very long. It is a truly wonderful atmosphere, the feeling of inclusion, camaraderie, of family and a sense that you are in the best place it is possible to be - on a bike in the beautiful southern Tyrol, surrounded by 'friends'. |
