This is the route I have discovered from Middletown to Hartford with minimal traffic until you hit downtown Hartford. The Roads are mostly in good condition except for Wethersfield Ave in Hartford.

A very nice loop from the center of Litchfield. The big hill on Route 118 is long but not unreasonable. The route goes past Klug farm, one of the few remaining dairy farms in the area.
