This is a relatively easy way to get from downtown Manhattan or Brooklyn to the Kissena Velodrome in Queens. There is one short hill at Eliot Ave. It's wise to take the full lane for a short distance on Eliot while riding past the cemetary (about 1 minute) because the road is too narrow for cars and bike to share. Or ride the sidewalk for this section. Metropolitan avenue is not much fun but you have to get through brooklyn somehow, and it's plenty wide.

Deep into Queens Loop TudorP Nov 23rd 2008, 10:33 78.5km
  • Onroad
  • Urban
An urban route crossing the Queensboro bridge out to Alley Park and back via Brooklyn and the Manhattan bridge. Mostly on roads with bike lanes or on greenways. A few tricky intersections as one would expect in NYC, but a good weekend route with low to medium traffic. Horace Harding Expy (along the LIE) may be the longest portion with heavier / fast moving traffic, so be careful there.
