South Surrey / Birch Bay / Lummi Island (Close to) / Ferndale / South Surrey trikky Jun 2nd 2009, 02:33 129.7km
Starting off at the South Surrey Park & Ride, goes through White Rock, Semiahmoo Native Reserve, around Drayton Harbour, through Birch Bay State Park & Cherry Point Oil Refinery Reserve then a loop down along Lummi Bay, Portage Bay & Bellingham Bay near Lummi Island, finally going through Ferndale before heading back to South Surrey Park And Ride. Up and down all through, with approximate elevation 90m at max. Two long and kind of steep hills along the route with some good downhill runs to make up for it. Finish this ride back in Canada with 5km gradual climb along King George Highway followed by about 2km downhill run to the end.

This route goes from the Newton area of Surrey, through White Rock, the Semiahmoo FN Reserve and then into the USA. Doing a loop through and around Birch Bay, there are no major hills to contend with except almost at the end as you go up 144 Street to 72nd Ave in Surrey. Crossing the border itself is relatively simple - no different to your previous experiences, except rather than driving through, you park your bike near the pedestrian entrances to the Immigration/Customs building on the appropriate side of the border (depending on the direction you're heading at the time. It was a very comfortable ride - one I feel is worth doing again. Roads are smooth throughout, although around Semiahmoo Road on the way to Birch Bay, they have used a slightly rougher paving style on that stretch of road.

Newton to Truck Crossing & Return trikky Apr 4th 2009, 09:58 61.6km
Approx 62k from Newton to US/Border. Route is via 64th, 176th, 0 Ave, 216th, 16th, 184th, 64th, 144 & 72nd. Watch the rail tracks on 64th @ 148th - a nasty angle, bike path is good guidance. No bike lane on 176th up the hill between 32nd & 16th. Sidewalk has good paved portion however.
