[CYCLE TOURS] T1956.10 Namur to Revin 2004 (BE-FR). This route, like the TACX video, starts about 1km to the south of Namur & follows the meandering Meuse river as it cuts through the Ardennes & eventually becomes the border between France & Belgium. The ride features mostly flat river bank roads which pass famous Gothic style towns like Dinant & huge Napoleonic fortifications called citadels which were built onto the flanking hills to defend the river & borders. After about 40km we reach the Town of Hastier & take a detour away from the river & up the flanking 200m high hills to arrive back down at the river in Givet. After this the route alternates between small hills & flat river until the finish at the French town of Revin.

[CYCLE CLASSICS] Milan San-Remo 2004 (IT). AKA la Primavera, is the Italian spring classic. The season opener is known most of all for the gruelling distance (300 km/185 miles), the high speeds that are reached, the wide and smooth roads and the short climbs that make up the final bit of the course. This is the last 85km but includes the climbs of the Cipressa (239m) which is the highest point of the race; after cresting the Poggio (160m) you’ll finish on the Via Roma in San Remo.

[CYCLE TOUR] Aube Valley Ride 2004 (FR). A lovely, gentle (to begin with), countryside route through a picturesque part of central France with the odd quiet village along the way as it eventually becomes a little more rolling after Gevrolles. The last 45km, after what has been a gently falling profile along the Aube Valley, will 'warm' the legs much more! But, overall, the route is comfortable, if you can handle to distance

[CYCLING CLASSIC] Iron Horse Classic 2004, Colorado (US). Sample the typically American atmosphere and experience the vast, wild and overpowering natural environment of Colorado. This 119 km route from Durango to the ski village of Ouray runs through the town of Silverton. The well-known 'Iron Horse Classic' takes place along part of this route. This pleasure ride continues along the Million dollar Highway through the Red Mountains to the finish line. It is a tranquil journey. Now and then a lorry races along the wide asphalt highway. The first section of the trip is flat, ideal for warming up. En route to Silverton you ride through moutain-side spruce woods and climb the Coal Bank Pass and the Molas. Both mountains are at elevations higher than 3050m. It is an easy ascent since the gradients are uniform and not too steep. Then you pass the highest point, the Red Mountain Pass. The view across the jagged mountaintops of San Juan is spectacular. The road then branches off and becomes the famous Million Dollar Highway (20 miles). This road got its name from the bottom layer of asphalt that is mixed with ore that contains gold. The road begins to wind dramatically. You cycle through the Red Mountains, rich in iron, along the arrow-straight wall of Uncompahgre Gorge, through tunnels and past pelting waterfalls. The 90m high Box Canyon Falls is close to the finish line. The water plunges rapidly down the waterfall, across dark limestone into a deep gorge.

It is designed to flow as a journey and to be achievable by a large cross-section of riders. You don’t need a full-face helmet and body armour for this event (!) but you will need to be comfortable on off-road terrain and be ready to switch regularly from tarmac to trail to gravel and back again. This is Day/Stage 3 of 3 from Northallerton to Scarborough. Day/Stage 3, Northallerton to Scarborough. Coming over the North York Moors and seeing the sea is one of life’s great pleasures, whether you are 6 or 60. Before you earn this view though, you’ve got a lumpy n’ bumpy day of open-topped moor, forest trails and gorgeous valleys to ride through. This route will guide you east towards Dalby Forest, itself a mecca for mountain bikers. Once through this last major objective it’s wheels down to the Yorkshire Coast and a triumphant entry into Scarborough from the North-West, to sweep into North Bay and dip a wheel in the water of the North Sea. Just remember to stop riding. Next stop is... Zeebrugge?

This is Day/Stage 2 of 3 from Shap to Northallerton. Day 2 - Shap to Northallerton. Some say Yorkshire is God’s own country. Mostly Yorkshiremen of course, but once you look past the flat cap and whippets, what you get is pretty much what they say it is; at least it is to mountain bikers. This route through Yorkshire cannot fail to impress the most discerning of riders. The scenery is stunning and the nature trail network is brilliant. This Day/Stage 2 course will pop you out of the Dales and into the Vale of York to over-night west of the North York Moors. Two Parks down; one to go….
