Lake District. This road links Buttermere and Braithwaite via a narrow ribbon of tarmac that is shear drama as it bisects the 45 degree steep bank with the most stunning scenery to your left that dwarfs you and with a beast of a 25% right hand bend to the summit.

Start/Finish Miller’s Dale Station/car park, OS grid ref SK 138 732 Total distance 11.8km (7.33 miles) Total ascent 525m (1721ft) Time 1 hour + Maps Ordnance Survey Landranger 1:50k: Buxton & Matlock 119. Or Garmin GB Discoverer 1:25k Peak District National Park (GPS). Summary EASY rail trail riding and scenic farm tracks. One steep and technical climb. From Miller’s Dale Station, join the Monsal Trail and head east on the old railway path (towards Bakewell). Pass through the Litton and Cressbrook tunnels. Continue on the rail trail to Headstone Viaduct, crossing the descent from Putwell Hill as it passes below the rail trail. The bridleway climb which takes you to rejoin the byway leaves the Monsal Trail on the right-hand side before the viaduct; pass through the gate and climb a narrow path. Rejoin the rocky main track and continue ascending, passing through a gate at the top before the track levels out. Continue to Brushfield. At Brushfield bear right at cottages onto byway that climbs gently below woods before emerging between fields. Follow this path as it undulates over Bull Tor towards Priestcliffe. At Priestcliffe, turn right at the junction immediately in front of the cottages and follow byway as it heads north west towards Miller’s Dale and begins to descend. At junction with Long Lane turn right and descend steeply. Track becomes broken Tarmac and then minor lane before emerging onto the B6049. Turn right and descend final Tarmac stretch to Miller’s Dale village; turn left on the road (signed Wormhill) and climb steeply under bridges to return to Miller’s Dale car park.

Sights of Interest: The Royal Albert Hall, Buckingham Palace and Speakers Corner. On the way get great views of the Serpentine, The Achilles Statue, Albert memorial and Wellington Arch . This route is based the Central London 4 Parks Ride Easy. It is easy to navigate and should prove very interesting. Please be aware that crossing by Wellington Arch may take time as there is along wait for the light and then only 8 secs of Green in which to cross. The police advise that there is very little traffic on the small open section of the Mall, HorseGuards Road and Birdgage Walk. Alternatively, simply double back down the Mall. I suggest you get a copy of the TFL Cycle map for central LONDON, this shows the locations of all the toilets and Kiosks which could be used as stops.

[CITY TOUR] One of the new Tacx City Tours series starts with scenic rides around two famous European cities, Rome and Paris. This route around Rome, on the DVD, was shot on a hot summer day in Rome where, as per this route, you pass the Vatican and St. Peter’s Basilica before heading into the heart of ancient Rome with the Roman Baths, the Colosseum and the temples. The ride has a few hills, but is not too hard.

[CYCLING CLASSIC] 'One of two Basque climbs, the TACX DVD follows the route of the tough Basque cycling classic with a distance of 50 kilometres together. Experience not only the wooded and mountainous Basque surroundings, but also the spectacular, scenic coast road into San Sebastian with beautiful sea views. The terrain is very diverse and ideal for training rides. The route contains two tough climbs, the second of which is the 455 m ascent of Jaizkibel, the legendary mountain that so often plays a decisive role in the Clasica San Sebastian. The TACX DVD also included the additional Pyraneen climb of Tourmalet from the east.
