http://www.veloland.ch/en/routen_detail.cfm?id=20815 26km are unsurfaced and the grade and conditions are easy if you exclude Furka Pass and Ernen-Mörel. The Rhone Route runs through the magnificent mountain scenery of the Valais, embracing glistening Lac Léman. After treeless Alpine pastures in Urserental, a perspiring climb up Furkapass followed by a heady downhill ride past the melting ice towers of the Rhone Glacier. Through Goms, the wide, sunny high-level valley of the young Rhone. Flower-filled fields and the aroma of resin accompany you almost to Brig, the main town of the upper Valais. The main valley widens, sun heats the mountain flanks. Before the lively towns of Sierre und Sion, an unruly section of the Rhone widens out; the Pfynwald nature reserve on a huge detritus mound. The Dents du Midi dominates the mountain scenery in the lower Rhonetal. A world of orchards and vineyards. Lac Léman, a small silver sea, surrounded by snow-capped peaks and the vineyard landscape of Lavaux and La Côte. Along the shores, the towns of Vevey, Montreux, the Vaud metropolis of Lausanne, then Nyon and cosmopolitan Genève.

This route is being mapped in 2010. Part is on Swiss cycle Route no.50. The route is being developed for a push-scooter (trottinette) road-trip organized by http://www.inventprod.org to promote citizen workshops. It actually starts at Divonne-les-Bains just over the frontier in France, to avoid Geneva commuter traffic. First mapping trip will be in Dec. 2009.

Fluela and Stelvio Pass in a day - whew!! The Flüela Pass is a nice warm-up after leaving Davos in the Graubunden region of Switzerland. Fluele Pass starts from Susch, is 13 km long with an ascent of 957 m - avg. 7.4 %. The Passo dello Stelvio, the main event, is the highest pass in Italy. It is situated in the Alps Retiche, to the north-west of the Montuoso group of the Ortles-Cevedale. Many consider it scenically the nicest of all the Alpine passes. It is actually possible to climb the Stelvio from two different sides; west from Bormio and east from Prato, both in Italy. However, it is also possible to reach the Stelvio from Switzerland, namely from St. Maria in the north (the Passo Umbrail (2501 m)). From Bormio you can go to Mazzo di Valtellina, the starting point of the Mortirolo. The Passo dello Stelvio is situated in Lombardy and belongs to the Dolomites. From Bormio, the Passo dello Stelvio ascent is 21.5 km long. Over this distance, you climb 1533 m - avg. 7.1 %.

A days rest now its into the main Alpine stage, with the Col de la Colombiere (1, 1618m) pass via Le Reposoir, the Col des Aravis (2, 1487m), Col des Saisies (1, 1660m) and the Col de la Madeleine (HC, 2000m) but no summit finish, rather a long downhill and flat into Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne. A favourite in a strong team, or the chance for a break away to succeed? or, will a contender take a chance and surprise us all?

Nothing enormous yet but the hills are a comin'. Climbs are starting to get longer and steeper so its time to brush off the cobwebs. Here we should get a better feel for who will be heading Le Tour and most hands should be exposed and game plans emerging. A real roller coaster - hopefully in more ways than one!
