| A circular route along the rural roads skirting Hemel Hempstead, and taking in Berkhamstead town centre. Apart from the short section in Berkhamstead, all but about one mile of this route -- to the East of Hemel -- is on roads that experience virtually no traffic. However, it is necessary to cross the A414 near J8 of the M1. This is an extremely busy road and, whether you cross it at the roundabout as I have indicated, or elsewhere, caution is required. Note that the route also passes the ill-fated Buncefield oil depot, which exploded a few years ago. This section is not particularly scenic, but it's interesting all the same. The rest of the route is rural, much of it on single-track road. Surfaces are generally good, however. |

| This route is generally on easy terrain, and suitable for most bike types. There is some off-road on bridleways so it can get muddy. |
