SANDAG - Carmel Valley Rd Westbound Under I-5 |

| The long dedicated right turn lane running all the way from El Camino Real to the I-5 North onramp, coupled with high traffic volumes and queue-jumping motorists in the rightmost through lane, some looking to swerve right for I-5N, and some looking to swerve left for I-5S, make it very difficult for westbound cyclists. Eastbound is quite a bit better but cyclists should "take the lane" under the I-5. Both directions suffer from high traffic volumes caused by I-5/SR-56 freeway-to-freeway traffic being shunted onto surface streets. |

| Reasonably flat East-West route consisting mostly of the SR-56 bike path and the CVREP recreational trail. Bike path doesn't go under I-5 (you can crawl). Carmel Country Road underpass/creek crossing is often wet. Grade level crossings at Carmel Valley Rd, Camino del Sur, Black Mountain Rd, and I-15 are dangerous by design and made worse by particularly poor motorist behavior. |

| Bike lane along Flanders is pleasant. The section along Gold Coast / Parkdale is nice, although parked cars mean riding in the traffic lane, which motorists often don't understand is necessary. The section approaching I-805 is difficult and the bike lane misleads cyclists into staying right too long. Very difficult to merge in high-speed traffic. |
