[CYCLE TOURS] T1956.10 Namur to Revin 2004 (BE-FR). This route, like the TACX video, starts about 1km to the south of Namur & follows the meandering Meuse river as it cuts through the Ardennes & eventually becomes the border between France & Belgium. The ride features mostly flat river bank roads which pass famous Gothic style towns like Dinant & huge Napoleonic fortifications called citadels which were built onto the flanking hills to defend the river & borders. After about 40km we reach the Town of Hastier & take a detour away from the river & up the flanking 200m high hills to arrive back down at the river in Givet. After this the route alternates between small hills & flat river until the finish at the French town of Revin.

| [MOUNTAIN STAGE] Alpine Classic Marmotte 2004 (FR). This ride starts with a short descent (a 3rd of the way) along the Col du Télégraphe (decent towards the Galibier) to the Valloir ski resort. After passing through the centre of the town, which (in the TACX video) is busy with construction activities, you begin the long ascent of the Col du Galibier. At a certain point you will be riding above the tree line, with alternating, fascinating views across the Alps. You then reach the infamous U-turn at Plan Lachat. From there, things get more difficult. The combination of altitude and steep slope conspire to slow you down. Towards the top of the Galibier the road slashes through a spectacular wall of snow (at least on video!), which is metres high at some places. After the 300-metre tunnel, you start a fantastic descent that leads you to the Col du Lautaret (2,000m). You ride alongside a glacier at La Meije Pass (3,983m), the village of La Grave, through tunnels and over the dam bridge at Lac du Chambon. You finish at the foot of the Lautaret at Les Clapier. Next comes a nearly dead straight false flat in the direction of the village of Bourg-d Oisans. Right before the village you turn right and, after 50 metres, arrive at the official starting line where the climb to l'Alpe d'Huez begins. This climb has long, difficult sections with 10% gradients and numerous hairpin curves. The finish is in the village of l'Alpe d'Huez, near the tunnel entrance.

[TRAINING WITH THE PROS] Preparing for the 2012 season, the riders of RadioShack-Nissan-Trek team came together for a training camp on Mallorca and they were joined by Tacx. You could follow Frank and Andy Schleck and their team mates on video or do this 82 km, 2,5 hour ride on undulating tarmac roads past palm trees, rock formations and sleeping villages yourself. What will it be? The training ride ends on the Coll de sa Batalla, a tough climb in the beautiful north of the island with a length of 8 kilometres and an average incline of 5%.

[CYCLE TOUR] This route of Bergen-Voss is not only Norway’s biggest and best-known cyclosportive event, but also one of the world’s most scenic tours. The TACX DVD is 90 kilometres long ride, filmed during the event in June 2011, takes in the last half of the race, following fairly easy, undulating roads along the sides of the famous fjords between the coastal town of Bergen and the ski resort of Voss. Towards the end one longer climb appears, but the slopes are not so steep and halfway up there is a reward of a spectacular waterfall. Bergen-Voss is breathtakingly beautiful.

Expert Ride. Dartmoor is renowned for the challenging nature of its terrain. The effort required to climb steeply to well over 300m several times on this ride is well worth it though - the roads are largely quiet and the scenery exquisite, and the towns and villages you pass through en route have a typical country charm. Unless a masochist, you should take a triple or a compact! Bike Shops: The Bike Shed, Exeter 01392 426191; Bikus, Bovey Tracey 01626 833444. www.exeter.gov.uk/visiting.

[CYCLING CLASSIC] Milan San Remo, AKA la Primavera, is the Italian spring classic. The season opener is known most of all for the gruelling distance (300 km/185 miles), the high speeds that are reached, the wide and smooth roads and the short climbs that make up the final bit of the course. The top of the Cipressa is the highest point of the race; after cresting the Poggio you’ll finish on the Via Roma in San Remo.

[MOUNTAIN STAGE] Mont Ventoux 2011 (Bédoin)(FR): The Mont Ventoux is probably the most famous and most feared mountain that can be climbed in France. Conquering the Giant of Provence is a challenging adventure for every cyclist. The TACX film of this route starts just outside Malaucène and takes the road to Bédoin for the most used and most difficult climb to the top at 1912 metres. After descending back to Malaucène there is a scenic ride past the Dentelles de Montmirail to the finish in Sault. The ‘easier’ climb of the Mont Ventoux from the Sault side is available on the DVD Cols Collection III (T1956.68).
