Easy, scenic ride through the Ojai Valley. Scenery ranges from the bucolic to the post-apocalyptic. If you start from Ventura, it's a 30-mile round trip with 800-foot elevation gain, but a VERY shallow grade -- built over old railroad line.

This is what passes for a nature trail in Los Angeles. Industrial, but nature finds a way of poking through.
Maple Springs Road zipflash Jun 10th 2009, 02:19 46.5km
Irvine to end of pavement on Maple Springs Road in upper Silverado Canyon. Pretty, hot, lots of bugs in spring. About 30 miles one way, with a pretty steep climb in Cleveland National Forest.
Laguna Niguel Loop zipflash Jun 4th 2009, 12:45 61.1km
Approximately 40-mile loop from Irvine through Laguna Niguel. Nice views on Aliso Creek bike path and PCH.
O'Neill Park Loop zipflash Jun 8th 2009, 12:02 71km
Irvine to O'Neill Park via scenic Live Oak Canyon. The Live Oak Cyn Rd stretch has no bike line, so I did it on Sunday morning, encountering only a dozen cars.
Red Rock Canyon from Henderson NV zipflash Jun 28th 2009, 02:02 77.3km
Desert scenery and good hills. Nothing too steep, just a lot of long climbs.
UC Irvine to La Mirada zipflash Jul 5th 2009, 07:55 88.2km
Irvine to La Mirada via Anaheim Hills and Chino Hills.
Riverside Century zipflash May 17th 2009, 06:20 160.1km
Irvine to end of pavement on Santa Ana River Trail is almost exactly 100 miles, round trip.
