Takes in, Macc Forest, Cat and Fiddle and Three Shires head. A lot of the offroad has been surfaced with big limestone rocks, which makes maintaining any speed a pig, and must be pretty bad for walkers too. There are some busy road sections, and please be aware that navigation may be difficult at higher points of the route in bad weather.

This is definately an easier option out of Sedbergh than tackling the Howgills, but beware a couple of genuine river crossings, which could be hazardous under flood conditions.

head up the valley, on road at first and after a few miles, a track which leads up to the memorial plaque to “Wayfarer” at an altitude of 700m. Wayfarer was W M Robinson, a pioneer of off-road cycling soon after the First World War and the memorial was erected by the Rough Stuff Fellowship. The track used to have a fairly rideable surface, but erosion combined with 4x4s and motorcycle trail bikes have made it much rougher.

Stop at the Summertrees Cafe SE of Kelsall for a break. On this route there are sections of the Sandstone Trail used, which should be walked.

A long run from Northwich to the excellent cafe a the Llandegla MTB centre. The return leg travels through the centre of Chester to limit the distance home, so take care there and on the main A534 between Bickerton Poacher pub and Farndon.

Similar to the Plessey route, but with an extra loop at the end making it upto a full 90 miles. The loop is hilly too, so a fair bit tougher than the alternative.

This is the route taken by the 2008 UCI Cheshire Cat cyclosportive, with some detours caused by missing signs! 95 miles in all, tough for me because I went too fast in the middle section. Goes up the infamous Mow Cop after 70 miles, can you make it all the way up?, (I didn't).
