| Approx 62k from Newton to US/Border. Route is via 64th, 176th, 0 Ave, 216th, 16th, 184th, 64th, 144 & 72nd. Watch the rail tracks on 64th @ 148th - a nasty angle, bike path is good guidance.
No bike lane on 176th up the hill between 32nd & 16th. Sidewalk has good paved portion however. |

| One way, from Newton to Burrard Skytrain station. For me, planning this way assumes I will be taking the Skytrain home... |

| Starts and finishes just south of the US border at Peace Arch. Easier to drive to Peace Arch Park, leave the car there and then walk across the border with the bike.
Route takes you on a relatively low traffic route to Birch Bay, through the Birch Bay State Park and back to Blaine. |

| This route starts near the Newton Wave pool, travels down King George Highway to the Peace Arch Border crossing.
Reenter Canada at the Aldergrove border crossing then travel through Langley, eventually returning to your starting point.
Moderate traffic along King George and through Langley, though good bike lines the vast majority of the way. Very low traffic on the US side of the border.
Some decent hills, especially at about the 6k mark in Surrey, and along H Street between Blaine and Lynden. Route finishes up with a hill up 142 Street so save some energy for that one.
Take your passport or other approved documentation (i.e. Nexus pass) to make the border crossing a smooth experience. |

| This route goes from the Newton area of Surrey, through White Rock, the Semiahmoo FN Reserve and then into the USA. Doing a loop through and around Birch Bay, there are no major hills to contend with except almost at the end as you go up 144 Street to 72nd Ave in Surrey.
Crossing the border itself is relatively simple - no different to your previous experiences, except rather than driving through, you park your bike near the pedestrian entrances to the Immigration/Customs building on the appropriate side of the border (depending on the direction you're heading at the time.
It was a very comfortable ride - one I feel is worth doing again.
Roads are smooth throughout, although around Semiahmoo Road on the way to Birch Bay, they have used a slightly rougher paving style on that stretch of road. |

| Starting off at the South Surrey Park & Ride, goes through White Rock, Semiahmoo Native Reserve, around Drayton Harbour, through Birch Bay State Park & Cherry Point Oil Refinery Reserve then a loop down along Lummi Bay, Portage Bay & Bellingham Bay near Lummi Island, finally going through Ferndale before heading back to South Surrey Park And Ride.
Up and down all through, with approximate elevation 90m at max. Two long and kind of steep hills along the route with some good downhill runs to make up for it.
Finish this ride back in Canada with 5km gradual climb along King George Highway followed by about 2km downhill run to the end. |
