Arrive early in the day so that you can visit the Billings Farm & Museum and take in downtown Woodstock. Leave some time in this hilly ride to wander off and visit some of the covered bridges and historical sites that are a little off the route, such as historic Weathersfield Ctr, and the Coolidge birthplace. Cap the day off with a dip in the swimming hole beneath the Elm St. bridge.

This short ride features two nice climbs and a 6+ mi. descent. Three covered bridges, lots of old barns and houses, and all the beauty of horse and dairy country make this one of Vermont's great short loops. Do this on a nice day in foliage season and you'll be one spoke short of heaven.

Starting at the Richmond Park & Ride, this CCW loop takes in two of Vermont's nicest climbs, Smugglers' Notch and Appalachian Gap. The Gap is easier going the other direction, but the Notch is much harder that way. There are lots of variations to this ride and it's easy to make it a century, or bail out in Waterbury and take Rte 2 back.

You've got to like climbing on this ride, with over 6,500' to go up, but you will be rewarded time and again with long descents and beautiful sights. Roads are relatively low-traffic and most pavement is in good to new condition. This route is a special treat during foliage season, late Sept - early Oct.. CW is the best direction for this ride!

The way to do this route is clockwise. The section from Island Pond to Norton is generally uphill, but no bad climbs. The road surface is bad for much of this stretch, but there's not a lot of traffic anywhere on this ride, so you can avoid most of the bad spots if you keep a sharp lookout. There are a couple of climbs between Norton and Canaan, but they're really not that bad and the descents are fast. The road here is quite good. The stretch south from Canaan to Bloomfield is rolling with very nice views of the White Mtns in NH. once you get south of Lemington, the pavement improves and things flatten out a bit. The steepest climbs are on the last leg, though they are not terribly long. Again, the road surface is generally bad 3'-4' from the edge, so you really need to keep your eyes open.
