Relatively relaxing ride. Except for the big hill as you enter the park, there is very little uphill. The hill itself is only half a mile, so it is definitely walkable. If you are going or coming from Portland, you can take the Springwater Corridor trail most of the way.

Starts in downtown Southport, CT, but east coast greenway gives suggestions all the way from New Haven. Created by cobling together the East Coast Greenway suggestions ( http://www.greenway.org/maps/googlemaps.htm ) with personal experience and the NY City bike map ( http://home2.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/bicyclists/bikemaps.shtml ). I haven't actually tried it, and probably won't for at least a year, so if anyone can vouch for sections or has done the whole thing please say something in the comments. I do know for sure that it is safe all the way from Fairfield to East Norwalk.
