I'd definitely recommend taking 31/131 into Illinois and into Chicago suburbs but it's your best guess after that point. Maybe a trail/path would have been a better choice than city streets.

Seattle to Bellingham. Burke-Gilman to Woodinville Dr to Hwy 9 aaaaaaaaall the way up to Mount Vernon. Take 538/college way to Riverside/Old 99. Chuckanut/11 to destination.

I wasn't too keen on taking the Sparta/Elroy trail for something like 80 miles so I opted to take 33 instead. Beautiful route I'd take again in a heartbeat.

Easily the longest and most grueling ride I've ever endured. The length is not for newbs but the ride is pretty fantastic once you're on the great river road.
