Parts of this route only work WESTBOUND. I did ride this 9/2/08 during evening rush hour. Luckily I was headed downtown and the worst traffic was going the other way. The Beach Blvd. Intracoastal Bridge is not completed yet. There was a sidewalk on the westbound side ...which I did use. Hopefully there will be bike lanes when both spans are completed. Beach does have a bike lane after the bridge, west to Parental Home Road.

This is a great location to start a vacation on the Great Allegheny Passage. It's 1.6 miles downhill to the trail, practically next door to a bike shop and close to just about anything else you might need. There's even a place to get that camp stove fuel that you couldn't take on the plane. See Cue Sheet.

This ride starts in Suwannee River S.P., 12 miles northwest of Live Oak, FL. Take a swim suit for a dip in beautiful Blue Springs at 16 miles. There are 1.4 miles of hard packed dirt on a beautiful road near the end. That can be avoided by following SR 141, straight to US 90, and turning LEFT. See longer companion route listed under Live Oak, FL.

We have been riding to Ravine State Gardens in Palatka on the last Sunday in February for more than 20 years. The purpose is to see the azaleas blooming in the park. CAUTION: I normally don't ride straight down US 17 into Green Cove Springs ...but we want to get down there and over the Shands Bridge as early as possible. I only ride this bridge once a year. We keep the group together and claim the lane. I am not recommending this as an acceptable bridge for anyone at just anytime. Early on a Sunday morning it's passable.

Beach Blvd. has a bike lane from San Pablo to Parental Home Road. The next 2.8 miles you might want to take to the sidewalk in rush hour traffic. I've provided one long cut to miss some of it. Once off of Beach Blvd. traffic is not bad.

This map starts with the last two bypasses on the Montour Trail. Then I took the Steel Valley Trail (SVT), from the end of the Montour Trail, to the Youghiogheny River Trail (YRT). AKA Yough River Trail. (Pronounce that Yock.)

This ride starts at Pizza Palace (920 Margaret St, 32204) in the Riverside area of Jacksonville. The route was planned for a 5:30am start in late August. Leaving town the streets are empty and mostly well lit. At 8.7 miles we reach the Jax-Baldwin Rail Trail for 14.6 more quiet miles. By the time we reach the end of the trail there'll be plenty of daylight for miles and miles of country roads. Stores are scarce on this ride ...so pay attention to the notes about them. The real reason that I started it at Pizza Palace will become evident when you finish. PIZZA!!!

Most of this ride is very rural. The closest store to the route is at 20.4 miles and is not visible from the route, but I've included it. Some road names in my cue don't agree with the map ...but I read the road signs. I can't figure out why there's 0.65 miles extra from the very beginning of this route. It's only 1 mile to the first turn.

This is a very scenic tour of Vilano Beach, St. Augustine, and the South Shore area. This version uses the sidewalk over the temporary Bridge of Lions. If I stay on the roadway, I do it a little differently. Then I take the first RIGHT on DOLPHIN, then LEFT on ARRICOLA to the end ...then LEFT on COQUINA.
