This route leads you uphill to Mihailovo then after a bit of a tramp uphill it goes downhill and takes you through the mainly derelict former residence of Todor Zhivkov. Unfortunately it is not abandoned and the security guards will want to take you inside to get down your details. They seem to be part of the Bulgarian Ministry of National Security and are quite insistent and serious about their job. They might let you out of the gate at the end.

A return trip of about 22 km. Leave the mining town of Gabra and head into the private deerpark. It is a quiet almost deserted blacktop road with fairly gentle climbs.

A fairly flat ride along river, short climb to Plana and 2 km downhill to spectacular observatory. Return is easy. Trip total about 25km. Lots of small mahali to explore as side trips via road or local connecting tracks. Took about 2 hours of riding time from the alternative starting point.

Good training route or a 3 hour leisurely Sunday ride. Has a good uphill section from German to the top of the hill at the communications compound. Great views over Pancharevo.
