Use the Capital Blvd sidewalk under Wade Avenue: Fairview to Dortch Street. I do not use this route to return home because the Atlantic Avenue section is uphill and conjested during rush our. See my Work To Home route for a longer, but much safer alternative.

This is the only way I know how to ride to work relatively traffic-free! It's all thanks to a greenway through NC State that continues onto Western. I'm not describing it as either high or low traffic, as you are not riding alongside cars, but there are some trafficy intersections where you need to be alert. This is a hell of a lot safer than taking Avent Ferry and riding the Dorthea Dix side of the Western greenway where all the sketchballs like to hang.
