This is day three of the first ride across Wisconsin on August 23, 1978. This was probably the hardest day. Especially note the famous, so called, "7 mile hill" on County F going up to Brigham Park at about 40 miles.

Not exactly the ideal route through Madison and what I took only looked vaguely like this but the rest of the ride was very nice.
