| Distance 43.5km (27.02miles)
Total climb 1,793m
Time 3-8hrs
1 Start in Crickhowell town. Head north past Llanbedr, taking the middle lane of a three-way fork (4.5km). Round the hairpin on the road then double back onto farm track bridleway through Neuadd Fawr farm (5.4km). Climb up to the wood then follow the bridleway through, leaving the fireroad at the top end and continue north, contouring along open hillside above the stream.
2Join another bridleway heading north (9.5km), climbing gradually on moorland until you drop over the edge. At 12.5km, dogleg left downhill briefly and then right across, diagonally (not directly) down the hill on rough double track towards, but not all the way down to, Blaenau Uch (16km). Before you bottom out, turn right and climb back up onto the ridge top around Mynydd Bychan. Follow the ridge top trail round the nose of the mountain (19.3km) taking the right-hand fork to head south down gloriously fast, rocky jeep track descent towards Grwyne Fawr reservoir.
3 Pass the reservoir and follow the access road down to Mynydd Du forest, doubling back over the stream and then north into the forest once you’re past the car park (26.4km). Follow fireroad north then south through Mynydd Du forest, emerging at the south west corner.
4 Follow track past Crug Mawr (36.7km) then blast down the descent back towards Llanbedr. Follow road left to a bridleway sign on your right (40.5km). Drop through a wood, along a stream and over a footbridge to enter Llanbedr by the side of the church. Roll back in on road to Crickhowell.
