The way points of this bicycle route:
This maps out the latest RTA proposal to link the eastern end of the M5East to...anything. It is largely an already existing Canterbury Council route.
Existing route crosses road closure here.
At present cyclists are directed to use the signalised pedestrian crossing to cross William St. Its a bit of a kludge, could be much better.
Roundabout, turn right. Up till here has been an already existing marked route.
At present its left turn only from here, crossing Bexley Rd is difficult in peak traffic. The opportunity to get a safe crossing for cyclists and pedestrians here is a good thing.
From here on its an existing, mostly substandard route. Currently there is no pram ramp here, theres also barriers that make it difficult to get a bike to the Cup & Saucer Creek Path which starts here. You need to dismount.
Surface is poorly maintained lumpy bitumen.
One of three narrow bridges on the Cup & Saucer Creek path. Bridge is too narrow for bikes to pass each other effectively, there is a narrowing at the north end. It got a paint job 01/02/07.
The second narrow bridge. one bike at a time due to the path turning either side of it.
Wow, theres actually a descent surface through here! Doesn't last long though.
Third very narrow bridge, too narrow for bikes to pass each other. The metal surface can also be slippery in the wet, needs a repaint.
Up hill. The surface is back to uneven and narrow.
Path finishes. Pedestrian crossing. Back on the road.
Path starts again. The surface is good, but some parts just ahead are narrow.
Path gets narrow.
