The way points of this bicycle route:
lcbo, bus stop, small store, gazebo.
forest and paved road
alsace road is wonderful rolling hills, very scenic and rural. zero traffic, ( 'cept for the rare local who is usually zipping along not expecting you so listen well.)
this is sparse cottage country now, and there is a dump nearby so watch for bears. also back at wolf lake road the road dips next to a lake about 1 km in. great for a nice quick splash.
this is a museum an preserved 150 year old hotel. nice for a visit. check in here on the conditions of the nippising trail, in 2006 the trail was too rough and mucky for mountain bikes.
if you are tired and want to camp, you can bike north-west on the 522 up to restoule park. or you can go on to rye, ( a ghost town) down the old nippising road(if it is passable). or you head east on the 522 to rye road which is large loose gravel and dark lonely forest.
loose gravel, there are no cottages here yet, but there are signs of progress. watch fer bears. bring a bug jacket, you know, the fully mesh ones so you dont overheat.
and you'll encounter the odd ATVer.
pristine lake cute cottages galore.
there is a store/restaurant just over here
i recommend the fish.
small annoying family provincial park. sleepy time. check the sites on the north east side, cause there is a short cut to the store through the forest and sand pit and up a back road.
cottager traffic.
some of the east west roads are logging roads
if you look north, you will find the nippissing trail to be only ATV worthy, but rumour has it that the trail association is cyclefying it. for now go south along a nicely graveled zero traffic historic pioneer road.
swamps full of blueberries and moss as thick as a phone book on the rocks.
ontarios shortest provincial numbered hwy. stunning, paved, peaceful, no traffic. oh yeah, you are on the trans canada trail.
breakfast at the magnetawan inn. big time bang for your buck.
the wonderous magnificent magnetawan river. hang out, go exploring here.
scenic and quaint
store. you can get a beachfront site where teenage girls deliver the best pizza in the world to your tent by foot. sleepin on tha beach.
keep your eyes open for the ruins of old pioneer towns and cemetaries.
the park to park trail is not suitable for bikes. ATVs have ripped it up good and it is deeeeeeep sand and ruts and large swampy puddles. shame though, i tried it and the scenery was pristine and untouched except for the roar of the odd ATV engine. fortunatly it criss crosses with the 518 west to parry sound or east to huntsville.
paved, little traffic, scenic, low rolling hills wheeee!!
lunch at one of two restaurants, we choose the biker bar. not bad. follow his directions.
south to ifracombe, ravens cliffe and into huntsville. pfft. this is a shortcut.
clear lake, clean spring fed. bookers, nice resort, free use of canoes, private campsites, really nice owners. sleepy time.
breakfast and groceries
this town has been plowed over for hwy 11, so these are now snowmobile trails, gravel, rocky, slow going.
canoeing mountain biking, hiking, secluded campsites. access to canoe trips into algonquin on the east river. HILLS
busy popular town. every amenity imaginable. bus, train. the end of this trip.
