The way points of this bicycle route:

Off of the road virtually all the way from this point.

Actually we went right and north here on a detour up to Clover Ridge Plaza where we stopped to get some picnic supplies at the grocery store there. Then we came back down to here.

Public school (my sister attended, long ago).

Dirt path shortcut.

Deep muddy puddle here. I hit it and splashed a bit of dirty water back onto the kids being pulled in the chariot. They had both fallen asleep shortly before this and did not wake up.

Path down to Rotary Park

Rotary Park. There are several playgrounds here, a water park, and a snack bar.

Murky pond associated with the nearby water treatment facility. Looks nasty, but there was no odour.

Glimpse in across the huge nuclear generating station complex. Fences all along here warn that there are 24 hour armed patrols.

On the satellite view this looks bleak, but on the left is a large hill with trees, and there are lots of trees on the right also. So, the ride feels more countryside-ish than it looks from above.

Noticed security guys sitting in a car in this parking lot watching me go by (I had my camera out and was taking pictures as I rode).

Giant windmill whoops through the air to the left (going south) here. It really is quite a distinctive "whoop" sound as each blade passes.

Nature "reclamation" area on the right. Several signs saying so. Some swans swimming around in there when we went by.

We stopped here for picnic, and for the kids to play. There is a water park, and a sand and pebble beach.

Along here is a fancy maritime-looking village. The bottoms of the units along the road contain stores and restaurants. There is an ice cream shop. There's also a burger/fry stand. As well as more upscale places.

Another waterfront park. Playground here, but we didn't stop.

On the way back this way, I went straight over to Liverpool road and down to see what it was like. It's quite a busy road, and we ended up staying on the sidewalk most of its length going south. Not recommended. Not many pedestrians though. And there are some shops along there, if you're looking for that sort of thing.

We turned back here because certain of our party got nervous by the wind and clouds that it might rain. Petticoat Creek conservation area/park is not far around the other side of this bay though. Next time...

Route Details

An afternoon bike ride with my mom and the kids. Nearly all on paved multi-use paths. Note around the beginning of the path the web of paths between houses that permiate this area of Ajax. On the way back we went further along the lake shore, and then up (but i didn't want to have to map the path all the way back just to get to the divergent point).
