The way points of this bicycle route:
Free, open parking on most streets in Woodstock
Turn left onto River St. after crossing historic iron bridge. Great swimming hole below bridge.
Turn left onto Mountain Ave. Cross Middle covered bridge (1969), which replaced iron bridge. Built in traditional Town Lattice style.
Turn right, following road around town green. Take hard left at end of green to VT 106, south.
Keep following VT 106 on this long, easy climb; you will be rewarded.
There are a few covered bridges off VT 44, on Churchill Rd, Yale Heights Rd. and Bible Hill Rd.
Tyson Rd features a section of 7% grade. It cuts over to VT 100 at Tyson.
Turn right onto scenic VT 131, unless you have the time to take a jog over to Weathersfield. It's worth it. The Salmond covered bridge (1880) is on Henry Gould Rd, NE of Amsden.
Downers Covered Bridge (1840) is on Upper Falls Rd.
Turn right onto VT 103
A nice town green with a large gazebo to take a break. Stores are just beyond.
Turn right onto VT 100
Turn right on VT 100A and climb short, but wicked steep hill to Calvin Coolidge's birthplace
Turn right onto US 4, a busy road at times.
If you don't like the traffic, you can cross the light steel truss bridge and ride Bridges Rd. It connects all the way through into Woodstock (dirt).
Lincoln covered bridge (1865). Only CB in North America to use Pratt Truss.
You can follow River Rd back to the Billings Farm, or stay on US 4 into town.

Arrive early in the day so that you can visit the Billings Farm & Museum and take in downtown Woodstock. Leave some time in this hilly ride to wander off and visit some of the covered bridges and historical sites that are a little off the route, such as historic Weathersfield Ctr, and the Coolidge birthplace. Cap the day off with a dip in the swimming hole beneath the Elm St. bridge.
