The way points of this bicycle route:
This is the starting point at 5.45am Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday. We meet across the road from the ambulance station.
This is bridge has boards running inline the length of the bridge with large gaps between the boards. The lesser gaps are on the outer 3 boards in either direction. Be careful. Also watch out for the bolt heads.
During sugar cane harvest season, riders should be aware on cane trucks on these narrow roads, single file is recommended
This road from the bridge to the Lawrence Ferry can be busy at peak times. At our normal ride time the traffic is fairly light.
At this point you can cross the Clarence River by vehicular ferry to Lawrence, Grafton or Casino. The road to Grafton is fairly flat and well paved with only one small hill.
If you turn right at this point you will end up in the village of Brushgrove and can re-join the Pacific Hwy after crossing the south arm of the Clarence River via a bridge.
This is our rest break stop for about 10 minutes where we re-group and then head off to the finish.
The water way on your right is the South Arm of the Clarence River which forms the island you are riding on, Woodford Island.
This area is where the group picks up a little pace of around 33 to 43km/h heading to the finish.
For those with enough puff left there is usually a sprint to the finish just for fun. The 50k sign.
From here some members turn left for home while the others cross the bridge for home. Saturdays we have breakfast at "Coffee Art" in the main street near the pedestrian crossing, all welcome.
