The way points of this bicycle route:
Arrive off 9.17am train. Get supplies from the bakery, then head out north on the Old Calder Hwy
Right turn on the Romsey Rd
Left turn at right bend in Romsey Rd.
Take gravel road straight across intersection
Beautiful bushland riding, turn right onto Forest/Blands Rd
Enter the Cobaw State Forest. Take Ridge Rd (gravel forest road) up hill
Follow Ridge Rd through the forest.
Turn right at T-intersection, then left at next T.
Sealed road at Burke and Wills Track. Turn left.
Stop at winery for lunch and a taste of their wines.
Enjoy the big descent and long open ride.
Memorial to the first aircraft flight in Australia, by the Duigan brothers in 1910.
Take right turn onto Heathcote Rd.
Some big undulations along the road to Heathcote.
Lots of old mining diggings in the hills near Heathcote.
Pass down the main street and turn left at Barrack St.
Stay overnight here - camping or cabins in the caravan park. Dinner at the pub or The Bank Restaurant.
Sunday. Get supplies for lunch from the bakery before leaving town.
Colourful eroded diggings from the mining days.
Follow road around towards the highway. Turn right at next T-intersection, then left to the Northern Hwy.
Northern Hwy - a fairly flat, open road, beware of traffic.
Small town with a store. Take the right turn to Lancefield.
Hilly riding through spectacular granite tor country.
Lunch stop near here by the roadside.
A series of big hills culminate in a final climb, then a flying descent into the Lancefield valley.
Supply point for afternoon tea. Bakery, toilets and water.
Bolgers Lane. Turn left off the main Kyneton-Lancefield Rd.
Short section of gravel road approaching Hanging Rock.
Cross over sealed road to the right.
Continue straight ahead to the Romsey road junction. Turn left then right for Woodend.
Left turn onto the Old Calder Hwy.
Regroup at Keating's Hotel for dinner, then catch the 7.42pm train to Southern Cross.
