The way points of this bicycle route:
Start at Dustpan Alley, in The Courtyard, right across from Tommy's Bikes.
Left on NW Baker Creek. On your way out of town.
Right on NW Willis. This is where it gets good.
This is where I changed from a 40x15 fixed gear to a 32x15 fixed. I had to pop the fenders out of their quick release blocks to clear the tire, though.
Willis turns to gravel here. Pretty cool, but the large-scale washboards rattle my unsecured fender quite a bit. Okay on the uphill, but...
I think this is where I switched back to 40x15 and reattached the fender. The speed of the flats and the washboard of the road freaked me out. I thought the stays were going to go into the tire.
And... this is where I had to walk the bike, because it was too steep and loose for my condition and gear.
Real nice guy lives here, with two (or three?) good watch dogs. I heard them barking like crazy as I walked the hill, thinking "are they behind a fence? Guess I'll see..." They were. I rode again from here.
Left on High Heaven Road. Still dirt, still washboarded. I saw two school buses, and stopped while one was letting off a kid. No $500 fines for me today, thanks!
Bear right on High Heaven. Orchard View gets you to the same place, though... I'll try it next time.
This is fast and steep, still rutted dirt.
It changes to asphalt about halfway down. Probably a little before this point.
Left on Baker Creek.
There's not much shoulder through here by Ed Grenfell park, but people give you space.
Right on Michelbook.
Get a pint at the Hotel Oregon?
Or a Mirror Pond at Trask? Or a Red Thistle at the Golden Valley Brewery? The owner and the brewmaster are both cyclists, I hear. Maybe they'll put the Tour on. If it runs in 2008. :|
