The way points of this bicycle route:
Take the bike path here, to avoid downtown. Or take the Discovery Trail starting at about 26th Street Northwest, behind the Breakers Condos. The trail ultimately goes all the way into Ilwaco, but you will need a mountain bike to continue south of Seaview.
Stop here at Long Beach Coffee Roasters for the absolute best coffee and scones you will ever find!
right about here, the shoulder disappears temporarilty over the hill.
Watch this intersection for fast moving traffic, and for Grandpa in his oversized RV!
Right around here you will find the Willapa National Wildlife Refuge. This is a great place to stop and expore the interpretive trail (only open Monay-Friday until 4:00). Maps of Willapa Bay are aso available here.
Wach this area through Teal Slough, as the road narrows temporarily around blind corners.
Okies Grocery has limited supplies, but will get you through in a pinch. Also, as of July, 2007 the road serface from here to just east of the Megler Bridge is covered in chip-seal, offering a rough ride.
There's a nice little rest stop here alon the river.
Use caution going throught the tunnel. There's a caution light you can activate before going through, but I would still wait for a lull in traffic and pedal like hell through the tunnel, as there is no shoulder, and narrow lanes. It is a pretty short distance, however.
Watch this intersection for heavy traffic.
Check out Ilwaco's Port for Saturday Market, great restaurants, art galleries and shops.
Visit Cape Disapointment Lighthouse, and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center as a nice side trip from here.
Visit North Head Lighthouse from here.
Beautiful view of the ocean from here.
