The way points of this bicycle route:
Start on the south side of Westmead station, cross the road at the lights and ride up Hassall St.
Cross the intersection. You are now in Houison St. Continue to the end.
Cross the highway. At busy times use the lights opposite the BP garage. Head down Robilliard St, left at the bottom into Rees St, then right into Burnett St
Turn left into Crimea St, then first right into Franklin St, and first left into Railway St
Cross at the lights and follow down to the bottom of the hill
Cross under the M4 through the tunnel, and turn left onto the cyclepath
Continue along the shared path. Be careful of the first intersection (Wentworth St)which is very busy on week days with lots of trucks
Cross to the opposite side of the road at the bend (poor visibility so take care) and continue on the cycle path.
Cross the street and continue along the cyclepath along Adderley St. Be careful at the roundabout (Stubbs St) as the cycleway narrows. Turn right at Station Rd (Note: To reach Olympic Park, continue straight ahead at Adderley St)
Continue along Station Rd (medium traffic), past 2 sets of lights. Turn left just before the railway into North Pde.
At the end of North Pde, continue straight ahead through the passageway to Church St. Low speed as poor concrete surface. Use the driveway to get back onto the road at Church St
After passing Lidcombe station, turn right over the railway bridge, then left, then right at the busy roundabout (East St)
Turn left into Rookwood Cemetery (it's dead quiet in here!) and follow the road around to the left. You will come to Necropolis Circuit - follow this around and take the 3rd left turn into Necropolis Drive (opposite Jewish War Memorial). Stay on this all the way
Cross at the lights at Centenary Drive, and enter through the right hand noise barrier on the other side. Take the first right (Newton Rd).
Give way at Pemberton St
Turn right at Melville St
Follow Melville St to its end and take the footpath on the right to join the Cooks River Cycleway. This runs all the way through to Mascot.
Continue following the cycleway
Join Walsh Ave briefly then rejoin the cycleway at the end (on the right)
follow path to left and cross at formed crossing.
Follow the path around and cross Burwood Rd at the cycle crossing, then enter the park.
Beware of the narrow path under Canterbury Rd. It gets narrower as you go through. Safest to walk first time, and also beware of oncoming cyclists!
Cross the river (note the approaches are tight on both sides). Then join Lang Rd and cross Wardell Rd at the formed crossing into Beaman Park
Cross the Cooks river at the footbridge. It has very tight approaches on both sides.
Cross the road into Beaman Park
Cross Illawarra Rd carefully, then use the footpath to cross the bridge and follow it to the right into Steel Park
Take the path to the left after crossing the canal bridge (the path straight ahead is blocked by construction work at Jan 2008)
Continue on the cyclepath heading right from Carrington Rd
Cross Richardsons Cr at the lights, entering Tempe Station carpark. Keep to the right and rejoin the cycle path.
Pass under the railway line (beware that this passage can occasionally be covered by water at high tide. If this happens go back to Tempe station and cross the railway via Richardsons Cr bridge and take the first right into Griffiths St, first left into Gannon St, then turn right at the Princes Hwy on the footpath to the lights at Holbeach Ave)
Take the path exit before the Princes Hwy and cross the Hwy at the lights.
Turn left and then join the cycleway on the right.
Veer to the left along the river, and keep to the path going under the goods rail line
Cycle path crosses over Coward St and continues along shared path.
