The way points of this bicycle route:

Meet on the sidewalk outside the Convention Center Atrium entrance on Trinity near E 4th St

Go West on E 4th St

Left (S) on Congress Ave

If you stop at a light, turn around and look north at the Texas Capitol

During the summer, over one million bats live underneath the Congress Ave bridge over Lady Bird Lake (formerly Town Lake)

Note the metal bat sculpture on the right at Barton Springs Rd

Right (W) on W Annie St; the Capitol has remained in view all along S Congress.

Cross South 1st

Note traffic calming circle at intersections

Right (N) on South 5th St

Continue straight as street name changes to Dawson Rd

Exit the road and follow the bike/ped path around to the left.

Here are water fountains & public restrooms. The large building to the east is the Palmer Events Center

Right on W Riverside Dr

Follow this traffic circle all the way around

Auditorium Shores offers a nice lawn with a view of Lady Bird Lake and the Austin skyline

Move to left lane in preparation for turning left on S Lamar Blvd

Left on S Lamar Blvd

Right on Toomey Rd

Left on Sterzing St

Right on Barton Springs Rd

Move into main traffic lane as bike lane ends

Bike lane resumes, but get ready to merge left for left-hand turn

Left on Andrew Zilker Dr into Zilker Park

Left on William Barton

The temperature of Barton Springs Pool ranges from about 68.0°F in the winter to about 71.6°F in the summer (20.0°C-22.0°C)

The Zilker Playhouse hosts summer theater

Grab an easy gear for this short but steep climb

Keep right and climb up Columbus Dr

Right on Andrew Zilker Rd

Left on Stratford Rd (still in Zilker Park)

Left on Barton Springs Rd (prepare to turn right)

Right on Stratford Dr

The large area with soccer fields to your right is the location of the annual Austin City Limits Music Festival

Right onto the bike/ped path under MoPac

Ride single-file across the Roberta Crenshaw Bridge over Lady Bird Lake

Cross Veterans Dr and pedal up the bike/ped path (still underneath MoPac)

Walk your bike through this dirt-floored tunnel if you have skinny tires.

Right on the bike/ped path that continues along the sidewalk

Enter traffic lane and continue on Enfield

Right on Hartford Rd

Left on Palma Plaza

Straight ahead on W 14th St

Right on Westlynn St

Left on W 12th St

Straight across N Lamar Blvd

Shoal Creek has a great path from Lady Bird Lake to W 38th, and a bike path continues north along Shoal Creek Road all the way to US-183

Merge left in preparation for left-hand turn

Left on Nueces St

Left on Martin Luther King Jr Blvd

Right on Rio Grande St

Right on W 21st St

Straight across Guadalupe St, aka "The Drag"

Stop for photos of Littlefield Fountain and the UT Tower

Resume east along W 21st St

Right on Speedway (note the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium straight ahead)

Left on Jester Circle

Right on unnamed Road

Straight across MLK Blvd to Brazos St

Right on E 18th St

The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum is ahead to the right

Left on Congress Ave

The Texas Capitol is straight ahead

Follow the Capitol Grounds roadway counter-clockwise (keep right)

Here's a good spot to snap some photos

Beware of narrow groove on right edge of Congress Ave

Left on E 4th St (we've been here before)

Back where we started, at Trinity and E 4th St
