Wattle Fire Trail Loop

The way points of this bicycle route:

Nowra

Start at the roundabout where Kinghorne St, Kalandar St, and Albatross Rd meet. Head South West down the hill along Albatross Rd.

Turn Right onto Yalwal Rd

At the end of the armco, leave the road and head for the gate to enter the Nature Reserve.

Lift bike over the gate.

Go straight ahead onto the single track just as the road bends left

Sharp Turn to the Right. Don't miss this turn because it's easy to do. There is a distinctive dark green cycad (fern/palm) on the right just before the turn.

Go left here. The track to the right takes you back where you've come from (eventually)

Straight across the road

Left here

Right here.

Left onto the road and go straight through to the sealed road.

On Cabbage Tree Lane now. Head South to Albatross Rd

Albatross Road. Turn Right.

Nowra Hill

Turn Right onto Braidwood Road

Nowra Aviation Tech Park

Left onto Wugun Street

Continue onto the dirt and follow around the end of the airfield

Continue straight past Parma Rd

Cross Braidwood Road onto Yerriyong Vale Road.

Start of the Wattle Fire Trail. Turn right off the road and down the hill

Creek Crossing. If you don't want to get wet, the rocks on the RH side are the best option.

Start of the sand.

Did I mention the sand

Almost finished with the sand

So much for the sand. Here a real hill. 30% gradient so be prepared to push. Fortunately it will only be for 200m.

That's the worst of it over. It's fairly easy from now on. Although you have 90m of vertical gain over the the next 2.5km, it's not too bad.

Turn Left here, where another track joins the Wattle Trail

Straight across the clearing for the power lines

Right here.

Yalwal Rd. Turn right for a relatively smooth run back to town. There may be a few cars so keep your wits about you.

The road slopes downwards for the next 2.5 km or so. Enjoy the ride, but slow down for the corners and watch for oncoming cars.

Turn right. Yalwal Rd is sealed from here, but we won't be staying on it long.

Turn left onto Bamarang Rd for a scenic ride along the southern bank of the Shoalhaven River. The other good thing about going this way is you miss the 100m climb over 1km (10% gradient) up to Bamarang Dam.

Ok, here's the start of the last serious climb, climbing 40m, but it's only 500m long

Turn right onto Longreach Rd. Sealed roads all the way back to Nowra now, and mostly down hill with the occasional small climb.

Turn Left onto Yalwal Rd. Enjoy the next 1km downhill

Crossing Flat Rock Dam. We seem to have been here not long ago.

Turn Left onto Albatross Rd.

Nowra
