The way points of this bicycle route:
From V-line station, go left then first right up Henna St
Warrnambool in the indigenous language apparently means "town of roundabouts". Lovely wide streets, but roundabouts at every bloody intersection. Be careful and take the lane as you enter so as not encourage the 4WDs to try to squeeze past you onto the roundabouts.
right on Botanic Rd
Botanic gardens might make a nice stop to check over maps
left on Wollaston Rd
Historic bridge at river crossing that you can ride across instead of road bridge
join main road here - busy, but decent shoulder
left on Tower Hill Rd (signposted)
If you have the time, detour left down to Tower Hill State Game Reserve, well worth a look, lots of wildlife, and the re-vegetation is going very well
Good lookout view here of the extinct volcanic crater
Either continue around lake view rd, or detour down to Koroit if you need supplies
continue straight, down Sheehans Rd
left on Penhurst-Port Fairy Rd
Cross over Princes Hwy, busy as you would expect, but there is a shoulder and a quieter run into Port Fairy 600m down the road
turn left down Woodbine Rd
ride past the golf course
narrow bridge
Tourist Info Centre. Most shops are on Cox St, Bank St and James St. East beach is good swimming. I also recommend watch the shearwaters come back to nest on Green Island if staying overnight during summer - it is truly amazing experience.
