The way points of this bicycle route:
Bike shop at the corner of Quadra and Reynolds.
Turn onto the Galloping Goose Trail here
Turn onto the route north for my route. The signs indicate a short turn off the hwy then quickly back on behind a bus stop. I missed it when a bus was parked. If you want to go to Thetis Lake then stay on the Galloping Goose a little longer.
You can stay on the turn off and there will be way to get back on Hwy 1 in a few hundred meters.
See salmon spawning in the late fall. Looong hills coming up.
Still along way to go up but it's not that steep. がんばれ!
If you are really keen to go over the Malahat summit then don't turn off here. Stay on Hwy 1 for great views and you can join my route again later.
Sooke Lake Rd to L. ~1K in you can get onto the Cowichan Valley Trail but it is very gravelly and I don't recommend taking that route.
Take the right fork unless you want a longer route around the west side of the lake.
by Maxwell International School. The Head of the Shawnigan Regatta launches from here every February.
Stop here for some food
Turn here on Jaynes Rd or continue to Lakes Rd
turn left on Osbourne Bay Rd
Ferry runs about every 60 minutes. $9.75 with bike
Good food at the pub.
Watch for bike route sign. This gets you away from traffic.
Lots of amenities and funky shops.
Looong hill. Good blackberries at end of summer.
Turn left here for the ferry. Google shows the terminal in the wrong place.
Ferry runs about every two hours. No fare because you already paid to get on the island back at Crofton.
From here you can catch ferries to Tsawwassen (Vancouver) or the Gulf Islands.
Watch for the small pointing the way onto the Lochside Trail. You'll do a loop passing over the main road.
Watch for the trail to the left (east) of the ped overpass. It's easy to miss.
The Trail runs beside the Pat Bay Hwy a lot of the time so it can be noisy but it's separate.
There is pavement going straight so watch for the left turn here.
You can go to the ferry terminal for Anacortes (Wash.) here. It only runs twice a day.
Don't stop at the McPukes.
Watch out for cross traffic in the next few kilometres. It's easy to assume that back roads are safe but they're not.
Go thru this traffic light.
Pretty trestle crossing.
出来ました! You did it!
