San Vicente has a "good enough" bike lane but it dumps cyclists onto Wilshire at one of the busiest sections of the boulevard. Cyclists are forced to defend themselves against angry drivers merging on and off the 405 freeway and then have to fight 5 lanes of traffic to turn into Westwood. One great alternative is going through the VA, which drops you onto Sepulveda (which is the 405 alternative). The most direct route for cyclists would be to ride though the veteran's cemetery BUT not only did the cemetery BAN bicyclists but they locked the gate that opens to Veteran (the border of Westwood). It would make a HUGE difference if cyclists were not only allowed to use this short cut but encouraged to use it because there are no safe alternatives available.by brigitte
