The way points of this bicycle route:
Gorge through the Foret de Venasque
Just before the Col you pass an ancient wall (hence Col de Murs) built to prevent la peste (the plague) infecting the northern region. As you ride north towards this Col you get a sensational view of the MV observatory in the background.
(Yet another) sensational view of the MV + the Gorges de la Nesque
This is where the easier of the 3 climbs of MV begins up the D164. It's also where the 2009 TdF stage 20 peeled off from the D942 (the road you've just joined) heading west down the D1 and over the Col des Abeilles (Cat 3) before hitting the MV climb from Bedoin.
2009 TdF stage 20 passed over here (Cat 4 climb but in the opposite direction)
This is where we leave the TdF 2009 stage 20 route - we're turning left, they joined from the right.
You by-pass Mollans, but it's worth a stop, like most of the villages en route.
Peel off here to bypass Entrechaux. It's a flatter (the road runs along an old railway line) and cooler (it runs alongside the river and is far more shadey) route back to Vaison, which after 130-odd kms is pretty welcome.
