The way points of this bicycle route:
Start at the McDonalds/Red Rooster/Hungry Jacks Restaurant. Lots of parking, and a good spot to meet for a coffee before or after the ride.
Follow the bike lane along Mile End Rd and turn right at Withers Road. Withers can be a little rough in patches.
Follow Withers till you come to Foxall Road. There is a quite short steep decent and just as steep climb, but the momentum from your decent should carry to the top. It is also a fairly rough road with no lane markings, but it is very quiet and traffic shouldn't be an issue.
Turn right at the T intersection onto Samantha Riley Dr. and just a short trip to the Glenhaven Road turn off. This is a new round about with lots of road work happening here at the moment. Be careful! There is also a little one lane wooden bridge at the bottom of a rough decent. Watch you don't catch a tyre in between the planks.
Glenhaven Road! Save your breath for this road. It is a long steady climb with the end of this road giving you a nasty little stinger.
The climbs on this road are probably the equal toughest of the ride. Make it to the top of this one, and you should be right for the rest of the ride.
Well done! Catch your breath and cruise along Old Northern Road for a while. This is a busy road and sections don't have bike lane, so be careful.
The Castle Hill Rotary Club organises the Tour de Hills and this ride is in March and starts and finishes from the RSL Club just along here. It's a great ride!
Look out for the Cattai Ridge Road turn off sign
This is a beautiful quiet road with some fast down hill portions and challenging climbs as well. Enjoy this road!
There is a steep decent here which is lots of fun but be careful of a VERY sharp hairpin bend at the bottom of this decent. There is another single lane wooden bridge to negotiate which is not as bad as the Glenhaven Rd bridge but still a cycle hazard particularly for roadies.
After the fun of the decent there is a bit of work to get you out of this valley. This is quite a climb. Don't blow yourself up on this first part of the climb because there is another quite steep climb pretty much straight after it.
From now on just a few rolling hills. Look out for some fabulous rural homes. It's a great place to be out on your bike and away from the big smoke.
Welcome home!
