to avoid dirt+gravel on Ostrander Rd (also reduce climbing + distance), instead bear Right to continue on Orchard Rd, straight across rt 66 onto Tipple Rd, straight onto Tishauer Rd to rejoin main route. [not checked by us since 1996, but likely we'll try it next time.]

second half of a moderately hilly 49 mile loop which embraces the variety of western Columbia County -- from corn fields and dirt roads to the streets of Columbia's biggest city -- from horses and orchards to the Athens lighthouse out in the Hudson River -- and several big views of the Catskills.
