The way points of this bicycle route:
Exit Toa Payoh by a small footpath to the junction of Thomson Road and Jalan Toa Payoh.
Advice to stop, watch for traffic before the zebra crossing as vehicles are coming on a downward slope and increasing speed for the PIE.
Not an easy right turn. Need filter right in advance and wait for very-low-traffic slot due to traffic light at this no-right turn during peak hour opening. Alternatively, from Balestier Road junction, ride into Whitley Road, then Dyson Road, or ride on footpath on opposite side, or cross and head back at the Newton-Moulmein junction.
It is quite tricky to go straight here while almost all vehicles on left lanes are turning into PIE, excepts regular buses. Thus, easier if there is bus to "cover" you. Alternatively, turn left towards PIE, and use pedestrian crossing to carefully cross over this junction.
From here on is mainly upslope until before reaching Bukit Batok East Avenue 2 junction, but followed by a few more up and down slopes.
Many alternatives to get to NTU from here. My choices are based on shorter distance, wider lanes, less traffic on left lane, and avoid difficult right turns.
