The way points of this bicycle route:
Start point at the Round-about corner Miller St and Gilbert Rd - trams and can be busy with cars. Climb the hill going North up Gilbert Rd to Preston. Distance = 0km
Large and busy multi-lane intersection here at the corner of Bell St and Gilbert Rd Preston. Look out for the tram stop and people wanting to turn left. Unfortunately this intersection is just before the crest of the hill too. Distance = 0.82km
Corner Murray Rd and Gilbert Rd. Distance = 1.6km
Intersection Gilbert Rd and Regent St. The 112 tram line terminates here. Distance = 2.44km
Multi-lane round-about at Gilbert Rd and Henty St - bear left. Distance = 3.6km
Again a multi-lane round about take care and stick to the left lane - perhaps worth 'taking the lane'. Distance = 3.9km
3rd last traffic light until you get to Ford Motor Company. Turn right to go North up Banbury Rd. Distance = 4.2km
Round-about. Distance = 5.1km
Round-about. Distance = 5.7km
Round-about. Distance = 6.0km
Large round-about. Distance = 6.3km
Largish intersection here with Mahoneys Road. Probably worth getting off the bike and walking it across the lights to continue North up Blaxland Ave. Distance = 6.7km
Pick up the bike path here on the South side of the Northern Ring Rd, turn right and there is a crossover about 100metres to the East. Distance = 7.14km
Turn left and cross the Northern Ring Rd. Distance = 7.3km
Turn left and follow the new Hume Fwy going North. Distance = 7.4km
Main St. Distance = 9.0km
Google Maps shows that Barry Road continues from Thomastown to Campbellfield crossing both the Hume and Merri Creek - however I can't see that on a Melways. If this does materialise then it would be a perfect turn left to get to Ford Motor Company HQ. Distance = 9.9km
There is the Whittlesea Public Gardens on the East side of the path, and a bridge to the West which crosses the Hume Fwy and apparently terminates at Merri Creek. It will hopefully one day continue to one of the roads the other side of the Merri Creek. Distance = 10.2km
