Thornbury to BV office

The way points of this bicycle route:

Thornbury

Actually the border of Thornbury and Preston. Some good coffee shops, organic butchers and a VERY expensive IGA supermarket.

Thornbury

Make a right here at the Pharmacy to head towards the CBD. Look out for the tram tracks going every direrction. The bike path is in the middle of the road.

Thornbury

Stay on the bike path, the button is on your far right. Press the button to cross the intersection and make your way back to the left side of the bike path.

Northcote

Arthurton road. Look out for buses here because if they get caught at the traffic lights they will end up being across the bike path. If this is the case, look out for trams and use the tram track to get back onto the bike path.

Northcote

"The Round-a-bout of doom"... To get off the bike path use the ped crossing. Wait for traffic to stop and then ride off the crossing and onto the road into the middle lane. Assert your ground and ride through the roundabout and get into the St Georges Road bike lane.

Fitzroy North

Decision point: 1) Running late or bad weather: continue down St Georges Road 2) Got time, got energy, and good weather: get onto the footpath and use the traffic lights to get onto the capital city trail going West.

Fitzroy North

Wow, look out for those tram commuters that haven't had their coffee yet at this intersection if there is a tram near by!

Fitzroy North

You lose the bike lane here around the bend. Look out for glass on the road from the lawn bowls club to the East. Hold your lane on the road.

Fitzroy North

you get the bike lane back about here. More glass usually and broken road surface. Very bumpy if riding at 120psi on 700c tyres.

Fitzroy North

Stop, relax pass about 50 cars and two trams in 15 seconds. Be aware of left turning cars, trucks, tram commuters and other lunatics. Crossing Alexandra Pde is a bumping affair, loosen those elbows and shoulders.

Fitzroy

More crazy de-caffinated tram commuters and cars turning left. There is a stop box in front of the left lane traffic for cyclists. You are a feeling crazy, stop in this ahead of the front car. The bike lane swings outwards between parked cars and the tram tracks. Hold your line and don't look backwards!

Fitzroy

If you have gotten past all the glass and climbed this hill to Gertude St then you are doing well.

Fitzroy

Danger Will Robinson, Danger! You will have cars wanting to cut you off, wanting to run you down. Make your want across Vic pde and make your way into the left lane and prepare to turn left.

Melbourne

Melbourne

Lane seperates traffic at this point, left turners on your left, straight ahead on your right. Idiots all around (see next point)

Melbourne

Someone _WILL_ no doubt attempt to cut in front of you at this intersection. Just be wary they will do it, and there is nothing you can do.

Melbourne

Take this corner wide. But look out for the mossy drainage point on the bike lane just after the intersection is over. Best to occupy the car lane for the first few metres.

Melbourne

First tram "Super Stop" cars will attempt to kill you here.

Melbourne

101 Collins Street. Another Super Stop, car drivers will attempt to kill you here.

Melbourne

Something about a super stop and cars attempting to kill you?

Melbourne

Start to climb the hill...

Melbourne

Trams, cars, super stop, killing cyclists.

Melbourne

Yaa stop for the morning coffee near BV office.
